Applied geophysics plays a key role in addressing pressing societal challenges, such as the green shift, sustainable and fair development, preparedness for climate change and geohazards. Powerful computation resources and technologies allow for the acquisition, processing, and interpretation of a wide range of geophysical data that helps us understand and quantify the interaction of complex earth systems. Both the Norwegian industry and the academic sector have a long track record of contributing to the development of applied geophysical techniques for multiple societal needs, and the synergies between these two sectors have been key in such development. The Lofotseminaret in Applied Geophysics gathers universities, research institutions, and industry in Norway to discuss ongoing research and developments in geophysics. It is a forum for experts and early career researchers to establish cooperation.

We welcome submissions on all topics within applied geophysics. The seminar put emphasis, by inviting keynote speakers, on topics that are of primary importance for Norway, such as:

– Exploration and appraisal methods related to marine minerals.
– Advances in geophysical data collection and analysis.
– Static and dynamic mapping of subsurface reservoirs with particular emphasis on CO2 sequestration.
– Geophysical mapping and monitoring of polar areas.

There will be oral and poster presentations, in addition to invited keynote speakers covering the seminar’s main topics.

Note that accommodation at Nyvaagard will be organized by the committee and that the participants should not book this. The conference fee is 1500 NOK. PhD students are encouraged to e-mail helene.stemland@uib.no to apply for travel funding.
